Four members of the House of Representatives of Nigeria in Kano State have now jumped from the party known as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to African Democratic Congress (ADC), a development which may likely affect the political dynamics in Kano as the 2027 elections approach.

The defection was declared in the midst of several realignments taking place in opposition parties, with political actors seeking to position themselves ahead of future battles.

These members who have now defected to the ADC include Sani Wakili representing Minjibir/Ungogo federal constituency, Muktar Zakari representing Tarauni federal constituency, Umar Datti representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam federal constituency, and Abdulhakeem Ado representing Wudil/Garko federal constituency.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas declared these defections during plenary session on Wednesday.

Maipalace is a nickname of Kabiru Amadu, representing Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency of Zamfara State, while Emeka Chinedu represents Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte federal constituency, Imo State. They both jumped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Both legislators stated that crisis in their respective parties was responsible for the defections.

The African Democratic Congress has acquired a number of lawmakers over recent weeks in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Last week, Thaddeus Attah of Eti-Osa federal constituency in Lagos, Usman Zubairu of Birnin Gwari/Giwa federal constituency, Kaduna, and Sani Noma of Argungu/Augie federal constituency, Kebbi, respectively defected from LP and APC to join the ADC.

Central Post Nigeria reports that, African Democratic Congress has been witnessing a steady stream of defectors from other parties, making it one of the fast rising opposition parties in Nigeria.
