Ex-Nigerian envoy to the UK Abubakar Alhaji passes away in Abuja

Abubakar Alhaji, the former High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom, is dead.

According to sources, the late public servant died in the early hours of Thursday at a hospital in Abuja, where he was being treated for an illness.

A source close to the deceased revealed that the former High Commissioner was undergoing treatment prior to his death but was unwilling to mention what his ailment was.

Alhaji Abubakar served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and was known for his contributions to national development. He held important positions in public office during his time, and made important contributions while representing Nigeria internationally.

At the time this story was written, no statement from his family members regarding his death was released publicly.

His death comes barely two weeks after the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, announced the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi.

It also follows the recent passing of Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, mother of the ADC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

On Wednesday, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and Amaechi joined family members, political associates and sympathisers in Lagos for the funeral service held in honour of the late Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour.

During the earlier Service of Songs, Obi paid tribute to the deceased and urged those present to live upright lives, saying that the lives people live are reflected in the tributes paid to them after their passing.
