Passengers perish in flames after bus crashes into truck in Kwara
At least three persons died from burns after their bus and a truck crashed into each other and caught fire at Ilorin, which is the capital of Kwara State.
The collision was reported to have happened close to Ibrolak Filling Station, located around the area of Okolowo, on Friday.
The bus was said to be travelling from Lagos towards the northern part of the country, while the truck was coming from the Shao direction.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the truck, loaded with sack bags suspected to contain sawdust, was attempting to make a U-turn towards Okolowo when the oncoming bus rammed into it.
The impact reportedly triggered a fire that engulfed the bus, leaving the three occupants burnt beyond recognition.
The eyewitness said the bus was conveying day-old chicks, although it was not immediately clear whether there were other occupants apart from the three victims.
He added that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene early Friday morning to evacuate the remains of the victims.
The Kwara State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem, confirmed the accident when contacted by our correspondent.
He promised to provide further details but had yet to do so as of the filing of this report, despite subsequent calls seeking updates on the incident.
