NAF unleashes firepower, wipes out terrorist commanders in Borno
The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has chalked up yet another big success in its efforts to eliminate insurgents following the delivery of a number of airstrikes that reportedly neutralized scores of terrorists, including a number of their commanders, in the Northern Tumbuns sector of the Lake Chad Basin region.
The air strikes, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeted terrorist hideouts situated in the town of Metele, a known terrorist hideout in Borno State.
Sources revealed that there have been a number of attempts by the terrorists to ambush troops from Operation Hadin Kai in the area prior to the recent airstrike.
Just last week, the terrorists reportedly ambushed members of the Nigerian military in Borno State, killing a few soldiers and beheading some of the victims.
Commenting on the operation in Abuja on Thursday, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, stated that the airstrikes took place in the early hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
As he explained, the airstrikes followed credible intelligence and ISR missions, which indicated that there was a terrorist commander along with other terrorist hideouts and insurgent activity in the area.
“Acting on the intelligence, NAF air assets engaged the identified targets with precision. Upon arrival, aircrew observed significant terrorist movement around the concealed structures, confirming the presence of hostile elements,” he said.
“Following positive target identification, the aircraft executed devastating strikes on the designated locations. Post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the destruction of the terrorist enclave and the neutralisation of scores of terrorists.”
Ejodame said the Chief of the Air Staff, Hasan Bala Abubakar, commended personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups across the country.
“We will continue to leverage our air power capabilities to locate, strike and destroy terrorist targets wherever they are found.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring they have no safe haven within our sovereign territory,” the air chief was quoted as saying.
