JAMB candidates among victims as sea pirates abduct passengers on Calabar-Oron waterway

Tension has begun building up in Cross River State after the reported kidnap of not less than 15 travelers by sea pirates at the bustling Calabar-Oron waterways route in the course of Friday.

From accounts gotten, the travelers were traveling through the inland waterways route when some armed robbers seized them in their boat while they were in transit. The robbers allegedly moved the travelers to another location, much to the fear and apprehensions of others who were traveling at that time.

What is more worrying about the situation is the discovery that some of those kidnapped were students who had gone to write their JAMB UTME examinations This has sent jitters among parents and well-wishers.

This was disclosed by a naval official who preferred anonymity.

As per the source, an attack was made on the passenger boat by armed people who hijacked it and took the passengers to an undisclosed place.

It is also alleged that the case caught the attention of content creator , who apparently posted a video regarding the issue of kidnapping in the region.

In an interview with a Central Post Nigeria correspondent, a relative of one of the kidnapped examinees, who preferred anonymity, revealed that his younger brother had left his house on Friday to Oron where he was to take an exam by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The boat carrying the passengers apparently left Calabar en route to before the attack.

The did not confirm or deny the attack.

Police spokesman stated that the respective command was in a better position to provide details regarding the case.

There were no reports at the time of filing this article regarding the location of the abducted passengers.

Central Post Nigeria reports that attacks have become common lately along the Calabar-Oron water passage.
