Armed men kidnap Ondo traditional ruler, open fire on wife

The suspects believed to be kidnappers have taken away the traditional ruler of the Ode Oriya community located in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Adeniyi Adelana, following the invasion of his house on Saturday night.

According to reports, Adelana, aged 60 years, was kidnapped around 8:30 PM as six armed men invaded his house located within the community.

The sources indicated that the armed suspects shot the wife of the traditional ruler during the operation and abducted him to a nearby forest.

It was stated that the wife of the kidnapped traditional ruler was injured by the gunshot and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking in confirmation of the kidnapping case, Abayomi Jimoh, spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, reported that the wife of the traditional ruler had been taken to hospital for treatment.

The police spokesperson indicated that immediate response to the situation was carried out by sending operatives to the scene of the operation in search of the victim within the forest.

He said, “A comprehensive search-and-rescue operation was immediately activated, with security operatives combing nearby forests, bush paths and suspected escape routes in a determined effort to track the movement of the kidnappers, secure the victim’s safe release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that the victim is reunited safely with his family while all those involved face the full weight of the law.

“The Ondo State Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that may aid ongoing operations.”
