Kogi Govt House police inspector loses rifle to thieves in Lokoja

A police inspector attached to the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja is said to have lost his assault rifle and 30 rounds of live ammunition following the theft of his car, a recent internal police communication made available to SaharaReporters indicates.

The police communication, which is dated June 16, 2026, and shared to various police commands throughout the nation, disclosed that the lost gun belongs to Inspector Mohammed Abdullahi attached to the Government House Security detail in Lokoja.

The report goes on to reveal that the officer left his Toyota Camry registered under Kaduna, with the license plate number ZKW 650AA, at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja on June 13 at approximately 7:30 p.m.

He allegedly came back to find that the car had been stolen.

Thereafter, the authorities directed all the divisions, patrols, Control Room, and Violent Crime Response Unit in Lokoja to be on high alert to help recover the vehicle as well as the gun.

It came out from the communication that the vehicle had been traced to the Federal University, Felele, Lokoja. The only problem being that the gun had already been taken out of the vehicle.

All the police authorities in the country have since started searching for the missing gun and all the police command in the states, along with all other related personnel have been instructed to search for the gun.

It was advised in the wireless that all the police should start looking out for information regarding the stolen gun in their formations and divisions and should inform the Kogi State Police Command immediately upon sighting it.

“Be informed that on 13/06/2026 at about 19:30 hours, Police Number 372825, Inspector Mohammed Abdullahi, attached to my office, reported that he parked his Toyota Camry with Kaduna State registration number ZKW 650AA at the NUJ Secretariat, Lokoja, with a police rifle (breech number FA 4082) and 30 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition inside the vehicle,” the wireless message said.

“When he returned, the vehicle was missing.

“Upon receipt of the report, the following units were informed: SUPOLs ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’ Divisions, the Control Room, and the Divisional Crime Branch (VCRU), Lokoja.

“Teams from MINE and VERU Lokoja were mobilised to patrol the town and major roads for possible recovery of the vehicle and rifle.”

“The vehicle was later found abandoned opposite the Federal University, Lokoja, Felele, while the rifle had been taken away,” it added.
