Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, visited NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in his house in Kano State yesterday.

Obasanjo was accompanied by Kwankwaso as well as the NDC’s gubernatorial candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

Hassan, the spokesperson of Kwankwaso, confirmed the meeting and said that the meeting was a chance for “warm exchanges” between the two leaders without giving information about the discussion.

During Obasanjo’s second tenure as president of Nigeria, Kwankwaso acted as the minister of defense from 2003 until 2007 and Obasanjo and Kwankwaso still keep good relations after the tenure.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC party, is considered as the political ally of the former president of Nigeria.

The former president publicly endorsed Obi for the presidential election in 2023 while it has been reported that Obasanjo has been an important factor for forming the political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso before the 2027 general elections.
