Burna Boy sets new Spotify record as African Artist with most monthly listeners

The Nigerian singer, whose stage name is Burna Boy, has surpassed the all-time African record for the most monthly listeners on Spotify.

Burna Boy, the crooner that has been dubbed “African Giant,” now boasts of 46.84 million monthly listeners on Spotify, breaking the earlier African record of 46.58 million monthly listeners held by the South African singer, Tyla.

With 47.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Burna Boy looks set to break the mark of being the first African artist to have more than 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

According to reports, the increase in the monthly listener figure was largely attributed to Burna Boy’s World Cup track with Shakira, ‘Dai Dai’.

Notably, ‘Dai Dai,’ the song has recently climbed to number one on Spotify Global Top Songs chart becoming the first African artiste to occupy the top spot on the chart after Wizkid broke it back in 2016 with ‘One Dance.’
