One killed in Lagos-Ibadan expressway auto crash

Physically challenged beggar loses life in multi-car collision involving three vehicles at Car Park C on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun state.

According to a statement released by the Head of Media of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi on Saturday, the accident happened early in the morning.

He said that the accident involved a Mack truck carrying container and registered with license plate number AGL 374 XX, a DAF truck carrying goods and registered with license plate number AKM 476 XB and a white Toyota Bus with license plate number AKD 137 YA.

Akinbiyi further disclosed that according to eyewitness accounts, the Mack truck lost its brakes when it was approaching the turn point, and hence collided with the other vehicles turning around.

According to him, the loss of brakes also made the Mack truck kill the physically challenged beggar.

He stated, “According to eyewitness accounts, the MACK truck had a brake failure and hit vehicles negotiating a turning, and a beggar on wheels chair, slicing his body.

“Traffic outbound Lagos route is highly affected. TRACE Operatives, FRSC, and the police are on the ground doing the needful.”

He noted that efforts to remove the accident vehicles and restore free flow of traffic were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

It was reported on Friday that multiple crashes on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused gridlock, and left motorists stranded.

One person had also lost his life while two others sustained injuries in the accidents according to the FRSC.

The crashes had occurred on both the outbound and inbound carriageways of the expressway.
