Troops rescue 48 kidnap victims in Zamfara operation

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have managed to rescue 48 people who were victims of kidnappers after responding fastly to an attack of terrorists on Magami village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday, 26 July 2026.

This is according to a statement from the Media Information Officer
Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt-Col Aliyu Danja on Sunday.

He stated that this operation was carried out as a result of a distress call which was made to the troops in Sector 2 regarding an invasion of the village by a gang of about 40 people riding motorcycles.

According to him, this band of terrorists gathered many residents with a motive to take them to the bush, with another set of people waiting for them outside the village with the motorcycles.

He said on their arrival at the spot, the troops immediately engaged the bandits in gun battle, thus making them to leave all the kidnapped victims and run away into the bush.

“Regrettably, one civilian lost his life during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

“Following the rescue operation, troops conducted aggressive patrols to dominate the general area and forestall any further attack.

“The Theatre Command commends the gallantry and professionalism of the troops for this successful operation and reassures residents of the North West of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

“The public is enjoined to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to sustain the momentum in ridding the North West of terrorist elements,” the statement said.
