Four injured as petrol tanker catches fire at Abuja filling station

Petrol tanker with approximately 60,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was engulfed in flames last Thursday during the unloading process of fuel at AYM Shafa Filling Station situated opposite the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) office along Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way, Area 3, Garki, Abuja.

The fire resulted in injuries to four individuals.

The Fire Service confirmed the occurrence of the fire outbreak and stated that necessary emergency agencies responded to the scene and took steps in order to contain the fire and stop it from spreading.

“The fire was eventually extinguished by concerted efforts of emergency agencies involved,” according to DCF Paul Abraham, National Public Relations Officer, and Head of Corporate Services of FFS Headquarters.

He said the inferno affected part of the adjoining three-storey FCT-IRS building before firefighters contained it using multiple firefighting appliances, medium water jets and foam compound.

The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who acted as Incident Commander, personally coordinated the operation and remained at the scene until the early hours of Friday to ensure the fire was completely brought under control.

According to the statement, the four injured adult males were evacuated by a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged.

The FFS said a thorough inspection of the scene confirmed that there was no further fire outbreak or casualty, adding that all responding personnel and equipment had returned safely to their stations.

The Service commended residents, motorists and members of the public for their patience, cooperation and compliance with safety directives during the emergency response.

It also acknowledged the support of sister agencies, including the FCT Fire Service, NEMA, the Nigeria Police Force and other emergency responders, for their roles in managing the incident. History

The FFS added that investigation had commenced to determine the immediate and remote causes of the fire, with a view to preventing future occurrences.
