Kano Assembly approves 48-years-old Murtala Garo as deputy governor
The House of Assembly of Kano State has now officially appointed Murtala Sule Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State, in what can be described as a major political milestone in the state.
The process leading to this political milestone involved a screening exercise carried out by the lawmakers on him, after which the adoption of the recommendation for his appointment took place in a plenary session of the house.
The plenary session that resulted in this political milestone was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
In introducing the recommendation to appoint Mr. Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State, the Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhammad Bello stated that Garo had been nominated after the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo resigned
The speaker went ahead to indicate that the screening exercise had been carried out in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended, in which section the assembly is vested the power to confirm any nominee in the case of vacancy.
He indicated that in the course of the screening exercise, he had subjected the nominee to rigorous questioning on his educational and professional background, governance, and vision for the state, among others.
Furthermore, his credentials were also put into thorough examination during the process.
The Committee observed that Garo possessed an excellent knowledge about the duties of the office and came up with an implementable vision to help the administration of the governor meet the mandate.
After due consideration, the Committee proposed his confirmation, which the house later adopted.
Subsequently, Speaker Falgore put his appointment to a vote in the house, and it was unanimously approved, thus confirming Murtala Sule Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
In doing so, the Assembly affirmed its resolve to work together with the executive arm in ensuring good governance and development in the state.
Central Post Nigeria reported that Abba Kabir Yusuf has proposed Murtala Sule Garo for screening and approval as the new deputy governor of Kano State to the State House of Assembly.
This has been announced in a press statement released late Tuesday evening through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
Upon acceptance by the House, Garo will serve in his new role as deputy governor to fill the vacancy in the state government.
“This is based on the provisions of Section 191(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) empowering the Governor to nominate a Deputy Governor in case of vacancy,” stated the press release.
