Nwifuru sacks Ebonyi commissioner for works, Stanley Mbam

Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has dismissed Stanley Lebechi Mbam as the Commissioner for Works.

In a statement made on Saturday, the chief press secretary to the governor, Monday Uzor, made the announcement.

The order was made that Mbam should turn over all state property, inclusive of the government car, to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Mbam was also directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.

The statement, however, did not disclose the specific reason for the commissioner’s removal.

The governor, according to the statement, assured residents that his administration remained focused on delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure.

SaharaReporters recalls that Mbam’s sacking comes about seven months after he was suspended by Nwifuru over alleged dereliction of duty and slow pace of project delivery in the Ministry of Works.

Nwifuru had, on February 28, 2026, suspended Mbam indefinitely alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara.

The suspension followed concerns over the pace of infrastructure projects and what the administration described as lapses in the Ministry of Works.

Three days later, on March 3, Mbam publicly apologised to the governor and appealed for another opportunity to serve, taking responsibility for what he described as unmet expectations.

He was subsequently recalled by the governor on May 3, 2026, alongside other suspended officials.

The recall was announced during a Father’s Day service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.

Mbam returned to his position as Commissioner for Works following the May recall before his latest sacking on September 19.
