Nigerian Police rescue sister of ex-minister Adelabu, twin sons after gun daul with kidnappers
Police officers under the Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, who is the younger sister of Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant for APC in Oyo State, together with her twins aged 12 years, named Peter and Paul.
According to security sources, the rescues took place successfully around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after a night-long operation between police operatives and suspected kidnappers, which ended in a deadly shootout.
Two suspects were reported dead as a result of the exchange of gunfire between the police force and the suspected kidnappers, and two firearms belonging to the gang were seized from them.
This successful mission, as alleged, was achieved through the continuous intelligence gathering and movement tracking of the kidnappers.
Police sources disclosed that mounting pressure from operatives forced the kidnappers into a confrontation, ultimately leading to the rescue of the victims unharmed.
Security operatives have since launched a manhunt for other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The rescue brings to an end days of anxiety following the abduction of Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons on the morning of June 3.
The 43-year-old woman was kidnapped alongside her children at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop them off at school in Ibadan.
Witnesses had described the abduction as a coordinated operation, with armed men intercepting the victims and whisking them away. A red Toyota Camry was reportedly abandoned at the scene after the attack.
The family of Adelabu later confirmed the abduction in a statement issued through his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, noting that security agencies had immediately commenced efforts to secure the victims’ release and apprehend those responsible.
Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.
According to the family, she relocated to Ibadan with her children after retirement and was preparing to join her husband in the United States.
