The Katsina State Government has confirmed that retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died after being kept captive by bandits and termed it a painful development not only for the family of the deceased but also for the entire Katsina State and Nigeria.

This is because the late retired major general had at one time worked at the Nigerian Defense Headquarters as the Director of Defence Information (DDI). He was highly revered for his immense contribution to the security and information of the nation.

It is further stated in the Saturday press statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Muazu, that the retired senior military official died due to complications from his illness of Diabetes and Hypertension when he was under captivity.

The government lamented over the painful development, stating that several attempts were made to rescue him but in vain.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement said.

According to the government, the kidnapping and eventual killing of the late General was a great loss to his family, the state of Katsina, as well as Nigeria at large.

The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, sent his condolences to the deceased’s family and all Nigerians, explaining that the event was indeed very gloomy and showed that there is a dire need to cooperate more when combating insecurity.

“The sad development should serve as a wake-up call for all of us to come together in our efforts against criminals who are threatening the peace and security of communities,” explained Governor Dikko.

Furthermore, the government promised that they will work hand in hand with the Federal Government as well as other security forces so that the culprits were apprehended for their crimes.

Residents should expect no less from the state government in ensuring that they curb banditry and provide sustained peace throughout the state.

The government expressed their prayers and condolences to the deceased’s family.
