EFCC opens investigation into Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan over alleged terror financing
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to launch an investigation on activist-lawyer Deji Adeyanju and social media celebrity Martins Vincent Otse, famously referred to as VeryDarkMan, on issues concerning terror financing, illegal funding routes, and other national security issues.
According to reports, the investigation stems from a petition filed on June 17, 2026, at the commission by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere. The petition is alleged to have asked the commission to investigate their sources of funds used in engaging in their activism, protests, law cases, and media campaigns.
Agbomhere has asked for a thorough forensic audit of their bank accounts, properties, incomes and companies to ensure that they comply with anti-money laundering laws of Nigeria.
In his submission, he noted that though the civil activism may be constitutionally allowed, the magnitude of the activities may raise some questions which should be addressed with reference to the worry about the possibility of using the secret funding avenues to influence political narrative in the country for the benefit of either the local or external actors.
He called on the EFCC to work with security and intelligence agencies to establish if any of the money is posing a danger to the national security or forming part of the illicit financial systems.
He, however, added that the petition is not meant to charge the persons with guilt since it is a means through which the truth would be ascertained, and in the end, it will build more confidence in both persons.
It is expected of the EFCC to respond to the petition in line with its legal mandate, although at the time of writing this report, the Commission had not made any response officially.
