Prof. David Salifu, who previously served as the Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), has passed away following gunshot wounds suffered in a shooting by unknown gunmen.

As reported, the shooting took place on Thursday in Wukari, Taraba State, when the former SSG was on his way to Makurdi, which is the Benue State capital.

Reportedly, the former SSG was shot by suspected kidnappers, but he was able to flee from the attackers.

Unfortunately, gunshot wounds were suffered in the process.

Prof. Salifu was taken to a hospital in Makurdi where he died of gunshot wounds on Thursday night.

Details of the attack have not been revealed yet, as security agencies have not issued any statements regarding the shooting.

Attempts to get comment from the spokesman of Benue State Police Command have been fruitless as the Police Public Relations Officer did not pick up calls.

The demise of the former Benue SSG is another reminder of increasing security problems and frequent cases of kidnappings on main roads in the North-Central Nigeria.
