Mass defection hits APC as over 100 members join ADC in Sokoto
Hundreds of APC party members in Samo Village of Tambuwal Local Government Area have abandoned the APC and opted for the ADC due to tough economic times and increasing insecurity.
This massive defection happened yesterday at the ADC State Secretariat, Sokoto, where there was the presence of party leaders, youths, and women among others to welcome the new party members.
Most of the defecting members hailed from the Faga/Alasan ward and indicated that their motive for defecting is largely informed by socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria. Speaking on their behalf, they highlighted issues of tough economic times and insecurity among others as their reasons for defecting.
It appears that Nigerians are still facing difficulties meeting their daily needs even after assurances about better economic and security situation in the country. Businesses and agriculture have been negatively affected especially in the rural areas.
Another defector claimed that the policies of the government had made things even worse and now a majority of people cannot buy basic commodities for themselves. Moreover, he mentioned that the aspirations of the masses were never fulfilled and thus people are disillusioned and disappointed.
The defectors mentioned that insecurity is another serious problem as there have been frequent attacks by criminal gangs which hampered their way of life. They especially expressed concern regarding the problem of agriculture as many farmers are deserting their farms because of fears of kidnapping.
It was further mentioned by the defectors that they think that the ADC can provide a solution to the problems of Nigeria as it will bring about inclusive and people-centric governance.
In welcoming these new members, the ADC chairman in Tambuwal LGA, Alhaji Bello Dan Marafa, mentioned that this step indicates disappointment of people from the APC.
“This defection signals the desire of many Nigerians for a new political direction. We assure our new members of equal opportunities within the party,” he said.
Similarly, the Sokoto State ADC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Mai Gwandu, described the influx as a boost to the party’s grassroots expansion. He expressed confidence that the new members would strengthen the party’s presence and contribute to its growth ahead of future elections.
Gwandu also assured the defectors of full participation in party activities, noting that their decision underscores confidence in the ADC’s vision for a better Nigeria.
