England was able to evade what could have been one of their largest embarrassments in World Cup history by scoring two goals late in the game through Harry Kane that saw them claim a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against DR Congo and qualify for the round of 16 in Atlanta.

The English side appeared set for a shocking exit from the tournament after Brian Cipenga netted for DR Congo in the early moments of the game as they had to face staunch defense from their African counterparts throughout.

England found it hard to breach the defenses of DR Congo while also escaping a heavy defeat as Yoane Wissa hit the post from point-blank range.

DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi made a series of fantastic saves to prevent any goals from England.

But just 15 minutes from the end of the game, Harry Kane came up big for England when he was needed most

In the 75th minute, the striker netted the equaliser after a cross from the substitute player, Anthony Gordon to give a new lease of life to the English football team.

Kane scored the winner for England in the 86th minute with a brilliant individual effort.

After getting the ball near the box, he took a sharp turn, moved ahead, and blasted a shot from his right foot that found the top corner past an absolutely helpless Mpasi.

The win ensures that the English football team advances to the Round of 16 where they will face hosts Mexico in Mexico City.

This brace ensured that Kane’s goal count stands at five goals in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
