See winners of by-elections in Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kano, other states(FULL LIST)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced results from several federal and state constituency by-elections conducted across Nigeria on Saturday, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerging as the dominant winner in most of the contested seats.
While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to retain the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, the APC recorded significant victories in Enugu, Kebbi, Kano, and Ondo states, further strengthening its political presence across the country.
The by-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created by deaths, appointments, and other developments that left several legislative seats unoccupied.
APC Claims Enugu North Senatorial Seat
In Enugu State, APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa secured a resounding victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.
According to results announced by INEC, Asogwa polled 162,360 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Chief Nestor Ezeme of the PDP, who garnered 9,299 votes.
The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62.
The victory marks a significant political gain for the APC in a state traditionally considered a stronghold of opposition parties.
APC Wins Zuru State Constituency Seat in Kebbi
In Kebbi State, APC candidate Rabiu Garba Aiki emerged victorious in the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the State House of Assembly.
Aiki secured 4,887 votes, comfortably defeating Labour Party candidate Aliyu Galadima Muhammad, who polled 168 votes.
The seat became vacant following the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
Kano Federal Constituency Falls to APC
The APC also recorded another victory in Kano State, where Rabiu Shuaibu won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election.
INEC announced that Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes to defeat his rivals, including Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who received 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who secured 98 votes.
The by-election was conducted following the death of the constituency’s former representative, Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
PDP Retains Rivers South-East Senatorial District
The PDP recorded its only major victory of the by-election cycle in Rivers State.
The party’s candidate, Olaka Nwogu, was declared winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election after polling 47,961 votes.
Nwogu defeated APC candidate Osar Erewari, who secured 1,647 votes.
The election was held to replace Senator Barry Mpigi, whose death in February left the seat vacant.
The victory allows the PDP to maintain its grip on one of its traditional strongholds in the South-South region.
APC Secures Ondo South Senatorial District
In Ondo State, APC candidate Dayo Faduyile emerged victorious in the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
Faduyile polled 68,474 votes, defeating Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 1,411 votes.
The by-election became necessary after former senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, creating a vacancy in the upper legislative chamber.
Nasarawa North Result
Meanwhile, INEC is yet to announce the outcome of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election.
Voting took place across Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga, and Wamba local government areas to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who passed away after a prolonged illness.
Election observers and political stakeholders are closely monitoring the collation process as residents await the final declaration of results.
Central Post Nigeria reports that with victories in four major contests and only one significant loss, the APC emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the by-elections conducted across the country.
The outcomes are expected to reshape legislative representation in the affected constituencies while providing an early indication of political alignments ahead of future electoral contests.
As attention shifts to the pending Nasarawa North result, political analysts say the by-elections have once again highlighted the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s electoral landscape and the growing competition among the nation’s major political parties.
