Troops kill 2 Lakurawa terrorists, recover weapons in Kebbi
Two suspected terrorists from the Lakurawa outfit have been disarmed by troops of Sector 2 of Joint Task Force North West in the Fansan Yamma Operation while seizing their weapons and ammunition during an operational success in Kebbi State.
This was done in the Sabarumawa axis of the state, as the forces continue to dismantle terrorist networks and secure the North-West.
The Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, made this known in a press release on Sunday.
He said that based on credible information, the suspects were planning to launch an attack in Sabarumawa community.
He noted that the personnel of Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 quickly reacted and set up a tactical ambush to foil the planned attack.
“As the terrorists approached the ambush position, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, resulting in a fierce gun battle,” Danja said.
He further noted that the greater firepower of the troops made the terrorists panic, which caused the neutralization of two of the suspects, while others scattered into the nearby forests.
A subsequent search in the area resulted in the seizure of arms and other equipment used by the terrorists who were fleeing from the scene of action.
Among the equipment seized were AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.
Danja said that the clearance is part of military operations carried out to deny the terrorists and criminals freedom of movement within the North-West.
The officer reiterated that Operation Fansan Yamma is determined to guarantee safety of life and property through military operations against terrorists and criminals.
He also appealed to the general public to support security agencies in their fight against terrorism by providing credible information.
