Presidency: Nigerians earning N60,000 monthly are better off than some who Japa

The Presidency claims that some Nigerians who think they are having difficulties financially are more fortunate than many of their countrymen who moved to other countries years back.

This assertion was made by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, in an interview conducted on The Morayo Podcast Show on Wednesday.

Bwala, who claimed to be living in the UK, stated that the educated Nigerians who moved abroad now occupy themselves with poorly paid jobs despite their university education.

These include Nigerians with first class degree holders, masters and even PHD’s working in care homes, warehouses and menial works.

“Some of you Nigerians who think you are suffering are better off than your colleagues who travelled out five years ago,” Bwala said.

“I am a resident of the United Kingdom. A Nigerian who finished with a first class or second class degree now moves to the UK, adds another degree, only to end up working in care homes.

“As far as I am concerned, it is modern-day slavery. I will tell you today. It is even less than being a house girl because there are certain things that a house girl cannot do.”

Bwala’s comments come amid ongoing public debate over the economic conditions in Nigeria and the increasing number of Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad through the popular “japa” migration trend.
