Wike: I’ll never support Uzodinma for Senate President

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is clear that under no circumstances would he support the governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, as the president of the Nigerian Senate.

Wike was giving his remarks at TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout where he evaluated the performance of Tinubu and his political future after 2027 general election.

Wike, while speaking on the ongoing political developments ahead of the 2027 elections, said his opposition to Uzodinma’s reported ambition was absolute.

“Live or dead, I will never support Hope Uzodinma to become Senate President of Nigeria,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister also criticised some governors backing Uzodinma, saying they lacked the political experience to understand what he described as the Imo governor’s strategy.

According to Wike, some of the governors do not realise that Uzodinma is allegedly “playing with their intelligence” in his bid to emerge as Senate President.

His comments come amid growing political disagreements between Wike and Uzodinma, particularly over the structure of political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Uzodinma, who leads the APC Governors’ Forum, has recently been at the centre of the disagreement with Wike over the latter’s proposed Rainbow Coalition and its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

The latest exchange further highlights the widening political differences between the two influential figures as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
