PDP submits presidential, NASS candidates to INEC portal
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the support of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has made known that they have successfully uploaded their presidential, running mate and National Assembly candidates names onto the Independent National Electoral Commission Portal.
This development was made known by Abdulrahman Mohammed, the National Chairman of the party in a statement on Sunday.
The PDP has found itself amidst leadership crisis as a result of the conduct of the National Convention of the party in Ibadan last year, which led to the emergence of a split in the party.
However, as a result of the judgement of the Supreme Court, which cancelled the convention, the Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed.
According to the statement, the National Chairman said he was pleased to inform all PDP members and Nigerians that the Party, under his leadership, “has successfully uploaded the names of our Presidential Candidate, his Running Mate, and our National Assembly candidates onto the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal,” he said.
It was gathered that the PDP has settled for Babangida Umaru as the Vice Presidential candidate of the party to Senator Sandy Onor.
Umaru is the National Vice Chairman (North East) of the Wike backed PDP.
However, when our correspondent contacted the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed to confirm the development, he declined, saying the party will soon make an official statement on matter.
But, in an earlier statement, the party chairman said the upload was a clear demonstration of their commitment to the promise that, under his leadership, the PDP will fully participate in the 2027 General Elections. “Today, we have taken another decisive step towards fulfilling that promise,” he added.
The PDP chairman said the party was awaiting the completion of the upload of its governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates and congratulated members of the party on the completion of the process.
“As we await the conclusion of the upload of our Governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates, I, on behalf of the National Working Committee of our Party, extend my heartfelt congratulations to all PDP members across Nigeria and around the world,” he said.
