Court rejects suit for recognition of Turaki-Led PDP National Leadership

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has struck out a suit aimed at forcing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and gazette the names of the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed by Kabiru Turaki.

In his ruling on Friday, Justice Salim Ibrahim declared that the plaintiffs, headed by the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, were incompetent to file the suit, hence the striking out of the suit for lack of jurisdiction.

The court upheld the preliminary objection raised by INEC as well as other objections raised by the applicants who sought to join the suit. The court ruled that there was no showing that INEC had accepted the alleged Interim National Working Committee or that the plaintiffs could sue on behalf of the PDP.
