Two US Troops killed, one missing in Iranian strike on Jordan base

Regional tensions have reached a height never seen before this past Saturday when U.S. CENTCOM (Central Command) reported the deaths of Americans in the region due to attacks from Iran since the beginning of the conflict.

Military sources have confirmed the deaths of at least two American soldiers, while another is missing due to attacks by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones that breached the air defense of a military base in Jordan.

The Iranian rockets attacked the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base (MSAB), located in Jordan and often used by the United States Air Force as an operational base for conducting air missions.

CENTCOM officials report that there was a defensive battle between U.S. and coalition forces in order to counter the incoming trajectories. However, despite all their efforts, many warheads made contact with the base.

The statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reads “On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. Additionally, one service member is currently missing in action.”

Four other American service members sustained severe injuries and were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals.

CENTCOM noted that the four personnel have since been stabilised and discharged, while an unspecified number of other troops treated for minor shrapnel and blast-related injuries have returned to active duty.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld for 24 hours pending full notification of next of kin.

The lethal strikes occurred just hours after Iran’s political leadership announced it was completely suspending its commitments to the interim peace deal signed approximately a month ago, breaking a fragile week-long ceasefire.

In a statement read out on Iranian state television, the supreme leadership warned the United States of “unforgettable lessons” if the Pentagon continues its nightly air campaigns against Iranian military infrastructure.

The broadcast explicitly dismissed President Donald Trump’s signature on the previous interim agreement, labelling the terms “worthless and invalid.”

The Pentagon has aggressively ramped up its presence in response, rushing extra squadrons of Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters to forward bases in the Middle East.

The escalation pushes the total number of American service members killed in action since the conflict erupted on February 28 to 16, with over 430 wounded.

As US forces conclude a seventh consecutive night of retaliatory airstrikes hitting Iranian surveillance nodes, drone command sites, and transport hubs, the conflict has increasingly shifted toward controlling vital maritime corridors.

With both sides executing unrestricted strikes near the Strait of Hormuz and targeting regional infrastructure,  including desalination plants and power hubs, the global energy sector has been placed on high alert. Crude oil markets are showing sharp volatility as fears rise that the proxy conflict has officially transformed into a direct, interstate war.
