Toke Makinwa reveals why she no longer buys gifts for men she dates

Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has stated her reasons why she does not purchase gifts for the men she is dating anymore because the situation occurred from a past unpleasant experience when she was in college.

On one episode of her podcast Toke Moments where Reality TV celebrity Beauty Tukura appeared as guest, Makinwa shared some details from a past relationship which helped change her view of how she should handle such situations.

According to her, during her time as an undergraduate, she had a boyfriend who was 10 years older than her.

She wanted to show her affection towards him so much that she decided to use her school fees from the ongoing semester in order to buy a gift for him.

Later, she discovered that the man was cheating on her.

“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.

“He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home…there was another woman in his house. That broke me,” she stated.

Makinwa explained that the incident had a lasting impact on her and changed the way she approaches gift-giving in romantic relationships.
