Rivers Gov Fubara withdraws from APC Governorship primaries
Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has made a declaration of his decision to withdraw from APC gubernatorial primaries set for tomorrow.
The decision was contained in an open letter titled “My Decision to Withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries” which Fubara personally signed.
As per Fubara, the decision arose from careful thought processes and consultations with close family and friends.
According to him, he will now support whosoever is chosen as the party’s candidate because at times, leadership means self-denial for the benefit of others.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he said.
Fubara added that Rivers State must remain the priority over individual ambition, noting that peace, unity and stability were more important at this time.
“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual,” he said.
In addition, the governor thanked his friends and APC for their support during the campaign period, but at the same time admitted that the loss he suffered could disappoint his friends.
Furthermore, he acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s support and reassured that he will continue to use APC as an avenue for participating in politics.
According to Fubara, his decision was not made out of fear but with full conviction, in a bid to restore peace and harmony in Rivers State.
Finally, he stated that he will continue to work for his people in Rivers State until the expiration of his mandate.
