Shettima arrives Nigeria after attending BRICS Summit in India

Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, has returned to the country following his participation in the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit hosted by India in New Delhi, India, in place of the President, Bola Tinubu.

At the Summit, Vice President Shettima was involved in some of the high-level meetings and had several bilateral talks.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications in the Office of the Vice President.

One of the major engagements was a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders discussed areas of mutual interest between Nigeria and India.

The discussions covered renewed crude oil trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, defence, digital technology, fintech and renewable energy, among other strategic sectors.

Shettima also met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reaffirming Nigeria’s support for multilateralism and a more inclusive global economic order.
