Shettima visits Tinubu after APC retains him as 2027 running mate

Kashim Shettima, Vice President of Nigeria, on Friday met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja after being retained as the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the presidential election of 2027.

The meeting came just hours after the APC officially endorsed Tinubu-Shettima as its presidential ticket during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

The vice-president paid an official visit to the president to thank him for retaining him as the vice-presidential candidate of the APC for the 2027 presidential election.

The vice-president’s retention has ended weeks of speculations regarding his future with the APC following the presidential primaries of the political party.

With the endorsement of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket by the APC, the party will contest the 2027 presidential election with the same presidential team that won the last 2023 presidential election.

Hours earlier, Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on public communication and orientation, announced that the president had submitted his presidential nomination form to the NWC of the APC.

Dare disclosed in a post on his X handle that Tinubu emerged as the party’s only presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted his nomination form to the APC NWC as our sole presidential candidate for 2027.  He has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate,” Dare wrote.

Tinubu and Shettima’s nomination forms were presented to Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman, by Ibrahim Masari, the president’s special adviser on political and other matters, at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.

The ceremony was attended by Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo and chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, APC governors, members of the party’s national working committee (NWC), the APC caucus in the national assembly, members of the federal executive council (FEC), and other party leaders and stakeholders.
