Argentina rally past England 2-1 to reach World Cup final

Argentina fought back to beat England 2-1 and seal a spot in the FIFA World Cup finals through a remarkable semi-final in Atlanta.

After Thomas Tuchel’s team seemed on track for their first World Cup final since winning the tournament in 1966 after a goal by Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute, the reigning champions made an incredible last-minute comeback.

Enzo Fernández scored an equalizer in the 85th minute before Lautaro Martinez netted the winning goal for Argentina, who will now play in the final against Spain on Sunday.

England will be taking on France in the battle for third place after another heartbreaking World Cup finish.

The game was a tough one, especially in the first half when 19 fouls were committed as the referee found it difficult to maintain control of the game.

Fernández almost got a goal for Argentina before halftime as he had a shot go inches off-target.

The breakthrough came quite early on in the second half when Morgan Rogers played a precise cross from the right that Gordon put away at the far post.

Argentine did not wait too long to make the response as Jordan Pickford made an excellent reflex save from Nico González, followed by Alexis Mac Allister hitting the post with his header.

But their efforts paid off in the 85th minute when Fernández scored an exquisite goal beyond Pickford from 25 yards out, levelling things once again.

The English team was defending with four center-backs and could not stop the onslaughts from the Argentine players.

Following the second post hit by Mac Allister, Martínez secured the comeback in the 92nd minute with the winning goal that took Argentina into the final.

This win means Argentina is still on track to retain the World Cup, with Spain standing between them and the world trophy.
