Cross River: Customs officer dies in lone crash on Ikom-Calabar highway
Mr. Etteng Ise, a 54-year-old official from the Nigeria Customs Service, passed away in a one-car accident that took place on the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State.
This unfortunate incident happened around 2:56 pm on Monday close to Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The Cross River State Police Command announced this in a statement released by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, spokesperson for the force, in Calabar on Monday.
Eitokpah said Ise, who served at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area, reportedly lost control of his vehicle while avoiding a pothole.
He said the vehicle veered off the road into the bush and collided with a tree.
According to him, the victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
He said Ise’s remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The command commiserated with the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service over the incident.
It urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed and remain vigilant while driving, particularly on highways.
The command also appealed to road users to remain attentive to road conditions and take necessary precautions to prevent avoidable crashes.
