FG working with international partners to secure release of Oyo kidnap victims – Tinubu
The Federal Government has made it known that the government is utilizing all possible methods, including working with other countries, in its effort to bring about the safe liberation of the 47 teachers and students who were kidnapped from public and private schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
This was revealed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose speech was read by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. George Akume, during the unveiling of the renovated 154-bed Premier Hotel in Ibadan.
Akume assured citizens of Oyo State and the South-West that the Federal Government is making extra effort in fighting the increasing trend of banditry, kidnappings, and other violent activities in Nigeria.
“I wish to assure you that every realistic measure, including international collaboration, is being taken to ensure that the kidnapped victims in Oriire Local Government are safely brought home without harm or avoidable loss of life,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to be vigilant and assist the security agencies by collaborating with them through intelligence and community activities, pointing out that traditional rulers and religious organizations must also have key roles to play in ensuring effective security.
Sustainable economic growth can only succeed in an environment of peace and security, according to him, and the Tinubu-led government has been making investments in order to enhance the security environment of Nigeria.
According to Akume, the government has, within the last three years, made progress in coordinating efforts among security agencies, improving intelligence gathering, technological monitoring, community security and empowering the armed forces and security agencies.
He further noted that constitutional amendments underway in the National Assembly intended to improve policing in the entire federation will be put in place following its completion.
The SGF pointed out that the interventions being made by the government in the area of security are showing positive results in several areas of the country and reiterated the government’s determination to guarantee safety of every Nigerian and investor in the country.
