Gov Sule sacks 6 Nasarawa commissioners in major cabinet reshuffle

Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa State, has sacked six commissioners in a small cabinet reshuffling exercise with the intention of boosting his government.

The Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, made this known in an interview with journalists at the close of a session of the State Executive Council held in Lafia on Tuesday.

The commissioners whose positions have been affected serve in the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Sundry Matters.

“The governors requested for the sacking of these commissioners in order to open space for new ideas in the remaining period of his government,” Magaji stated.

However, the secretary noted that the action did not mean that the commissioners performed badly since they have been recognized for their efforts in office.

“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Gov. Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” he said.

Magaji added that the former commissioners would continue to be part of the government and could be considered for other assignments in due course.

He said the names of the new appointees would be announced through the appropriate channels.

The SSG also disclosed that the council deliberated extensively on strategies to enhance the state’s revenue by leveraging investments in the lithium sector.

He said the discussion followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa by President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

Magaji said the government was working on measures to maximise the economic benefits of the growing lithium processing industry in the state, adding that details of the decisions reached would be made public at the appropriate time.
