Gunmen demand ₦50m after abducting corpse of FRSC Deputy Commander, mourners in Kogi

Mourners accompanying the body of a recently deceased FRSC officer to his hometown of Otukpo in Benue State for burial are currently held captive by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State.

While transporting the body of the late DCC Augustine O. Ikwue, more commonly known as “Etume Zero,” the group had their car ambushed on the Ososo-Ajaokuta road in Kogi State.

Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu reported that the kidnappers intercepted the convoy that was transporting the corpse, kidnapped the corpse and those who were escorting the corpse and took them to the bushes.

He noted that the corpse was recovered around the Ejule area of Kogi State after it was left behind by the kidnappers.

Moreover, according to Olotu, the abductors are demanding ₦50 million for the release of the victims.

Commenting on the sad state of insecurity in the nation, he called the situation heartbreaking noting that not even corpses can “rest in peace” anymore.

“What kind of country are we living in? Even the dead cannot rest in peace,” he said.

He called on security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted mourners and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The late Augustine O. Ikwue, an FRSC Deputy Corps Commander, was scheduled to be buried AiOde in Upu community in Otukpo, Benue State, on Friday before the tragic incident disrupted the funeral procession.
