Over 70 residents kidnapped as gunmen attack military base in Zamfara

At least six soldiers have been reported dead and over 70 people kidnapped following an attack by the suspected bandits on the community of Kasuwar Daji in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

As reported by sources within the locality, who spoke to our correspondent via telephone, the bandits launched their attack on the community at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, following their alleged assault of the military camp in the area.

It was further reported that the perpetrators murdered six soldiers before venturing into the community where they kidnapped over 70 people and took them into the nearby forest.

Several businesses in the community were robbed of their valuable properties and other materials by the bandits during their attack.

A resident who identified himself as Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, told our correspondent that the bandits who stormed the community in large numbers, immediately started shooting sporadically to overrun the military outpost based to protect the area.

“Our calls to Zamfara state and the Federal Government is to come to the aide of Zamfara people generally on this insecurity bedivelling the state.

We really in danger as if the bandits can overpowered military and succeeded in their operation on innocent citizens,” Aminu Kasuwar Daji said.

While speaking to our correspondent through telephone interview, the former deputy speaker Hon Namadi Kasuwar Daji, said the bandits confirmed attacked his community and abducted unspecified number of residents.

According to him, even though he was not around as he travelled out of the state, but his relatives called and told him about the bandits attacked which became a horrible situation.

” I was told that the bandits have even killed soldiers but I was not told the actual number, again I was told that the bandits after looting shops to do away with foodstuffs, drinks and other properties, have also abducted unspecified number of residents to the bush.

Contacting the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he was not aware of the attacked at Kasuwar Daji, but promised to call back after contacting the head of Police Officer at the area.
