Plateau: Gunmen kill three vigilantes in midnight attack

Three vigilantes belonging to a vigilance unit in the area have been killed by gunmen who shot them while they were manning their post in Gwa Rim, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This was after gunmen reportedly shot at the vigilantes when they ambushed them around 2am in the morning of Wednesday.

Damba Dang, a resident of Riyom, who confirmed this incident, noted that this happened while the people in the area were asleep.

According to him, the gunmen killed three of the local security guards during the attack.

Dang lamented the renewed attacks on communities in the area, saying residents were becoming increasingly worried over their safety.

He said the killing of the vigilantes was particularly disturbing because they were only providing security for their community and helping to protect residents against attacks.

He appealed to security agencies to urgently strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom to prevent further attacks.

Dang also urged security operatives to investigate the incident, track down the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
