Plateau kidnap victims regain freedom as troops rescue policeman, 6 passengers

Soldiers from Operation Enduring Peace have declared the liberation of seven individuals who were reportedly kidnapped by some suspected kidnappers on a highway in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.

According to the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, this was after an urgent intervention after receiving a distress call around 9:30 p.m. on Monday from somewhere close to Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area.

He noted that the soldiers from Sector 6 of Operation Enduring Peace arrived at the scene and discovered that a green Opel Vectra car had been left abandoned right at the center of the road without anyone in it.

He also indicated that the soldiers engaged with the suspected kidnappers when they went in search and eventually forced them to take cover into the bush while abandoning their hostages.

The saved victims are known to be ASP Babagida Ishaku, Mr. Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi and Mrs. Kangyang Sunday.

The victims are alleged to have told the soldiers that they had boarded the vehicle from Akwanga, Nasarawa State and were heading to Jos before being stopped and kidnapped by the kidnappers.

It was learnt that the seven victims were saved unhurt and efforts are now being made to catch the running-away suspects.

Captain Oteh again reiterated that Operation ENDURING PEACE would continue to actively perform its mandate in ensuring peace and security for the protection of life and property of law abiding citizens in its Joint Operations Area.
