Suspected terrorists kill 1, kidnap over 30 in fresh attack on Kogi community
Terrorists suspected to be terror group members are reported to have invaded the Ayegunle Bunu community of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in one fatality and kidnapping more than 30 people during a nighttime assault.
According to sources, the invasion is believed to have occurred at around 2:25 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, after gunmen raided the community.
It was gathered that in the course of the attack, one person died, while another suffered injuries. Some of those kidnapped included two residents of the community—a male and female—as well as several travelers traveling inside a commercial bus that was stopped by the gunmen.
Sources disclosed that the vehicle was stopped by the gunmen who had blocked the route to the community and took charge of the vehicle with its passengers.
Local residents have expressed worry following the invasion of their community, noting that the gunmen operated freely in the community before abducting the victims and taking them to an undisclosed location.
The recent development is seen as adding further fears of insecurity among residents of the community and other communities in Kogi State that share borders with Kwara State.
