UNICAL halts admission into Medicine, Dentistry and Medical Laboratory Science

University of Calabar suspends admissions into Medicine & Surgery, Medical Lab Science and Dentistry for 2026/2027 academic session.

This information is part of a press release signed by the Registrar of UNICAL, Dr. Mrs. Chukwuka Icha, and obtained by journalists in Calabar yesterday from the Public Relations Office of the university.

According to the press release, there shall be no admission of new students for the three programmes in the coming academic year.

All applicants who have chosen UNICAL as their first choice institution for any of the three affected courses are advised to visit the nearest JAMB office to effect change of institution.

It added that the deadline for completing the change of institution is the end of July 2026.

The management noted that UNICAL is not the only institution affected by the development, disclosing that three other universities are also facing similar restrictions.

Although the university did not state the reason for the suspension, it urged prospective students and members of the public to rely only on official information regarding the development.

The institution also warned candidates against misinformation and unverified reports circulating on social media about the admission suspension.

It advised applicants to monitor official updates from both UNICAL and JAMB on the admission process and urged affected candidates to act promptly to avoid missing the deadline for changing their institution of choice.
