‘We left substantial funds’ — Peter Obi releases fresh evidence on Anambra accounts
Peter Obi, who is contesting for the presidency in 2027 from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued more documents that he claims to prove that his government retained a lot of money in the Anambra State Government account before he left office in 2014.
These documents have been put out on X through the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which supports his vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The release comes amid a renewed dispute between Obi and the Anambra State Government over the state’s financial position at the end of his tenure as governor.
The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo had alleged that the state was still servicing debts and other financial obligations incurred by previous administrations, including those of Obi and his successor, Willie Obiano.
Obi has rejected the allegations. He had earlier released handover documents and challenged the state government to provide evidence supporting its claims.
Reacting to the latest records, the Kwankwasiyya Movement drew attention to the bank balances contained in the documents and urged Nigerians to verify them independently.
“Look at those bank balances very well. The bank officials signed them with their full names and positions clearly written on them.
“Wow! Go and verify. May Peter Obi happen to Nigeria. What a man,” the group wrote on X.
The documents are being presented by Obi’s supporters as further evidence in the ongoing disagreement over Anambra’s finances at the time he left office.
The claims and figures contained in the records have not been independently verified in the material provided.
