World Cup 2026: Spain run riot in 4-goal rout of Saudi Arabia
In a ruthless performance against Saudi Arabia, Spain continued their perfect start to the tournament by thrashing the Asians 4-0 in their match at the 2026 World Cup.
It took Luis de la Fuente’s team just ten minutes to take the lead through the wonderkid Lamine Yamal who netted from Oyarzabal’s cut-back to give Spain a 1-0 lead.
However, that was not all from Oyarzabal, who scored Spain’s second in the 21st minute from Laporte’s through-ball to double his team’s lead. Just three minutes later, he found the back of the net for the third time in the encounter with Dani Olmo providing the assist for Oyarzabal’s second goal of the night to send Spain 3-0 up in just 24 minutes.
Salem Al-Dawsari received his marching orders in the 30th minute for committing a rash tackle.
Saudi Arabia needed some sort of response in the second half of the clash but instead found themselves under even more pressure with Hassan Al-Tombakti turning the ball into his own net in the opening four minutes of the second half
Spain eased off after that, controlling possession and seeing out a statement win that sends them top of the group with six points.
For Saudi Arabia, it’s back to the drawing board. Two games, zero points, and now a goal difference to worry about ahead of their final group match.
Oyarzabal walked away with two goals and an assist, while Yamal’s opener only strengthened his case as the breakout star of the tournament.
