3 mining workers killed as gunmen attack Plateau mining site

Unidentified gunmen launched an attack on a mining operation in Nyango, Gyel District of Jos South Local Government of Plateau State, resulting in the death of three people and the wounding of two others on Tuesday.

The attack occurred around 11:50 a.m. when the assailants attacked the mining operation and opened fire on the workers.

Reacting to the development, Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, noted that insecurity has continued to persist in the Gyel community and others in the locality.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, Rwang Tengwong, BYM observed that the latest attack is one among many violent occurrences which had occurred in the region.

As per the statement of the organization, residents of Gyel and other adjoining communities in Bassa Local Government Area have made numerous complaints against attacks and insecurity which had been perpetuated by criminals in the Gyero and Rafin Buna areas.

The organization reported that such attacks have caused many deaths and displacements and also affected the economic activities of the locals.

It called upon the security and government agencies to urgently put an end to the cycle of violence.
