Germany have secured themselves a place in the next round of the World Cup tournament for the first time since 2014 after putting up an impressive second-half fight to claim a win against Ivory Coast 2–1 in a match that took place in Toronto over the weekend.

In the 30th minute, Franck Kessie gave Ivory Coast the lead by netting one from inside the six-yard box after a concerted push from the team.

However, Germany turned the tide around in the second half thanks to substitute player Deniz Undav.

Undav drew Germany level with an exquisite volley in the second half before scoring the winner deep in injury time, ensuring his team wins the game to book their ticket to the next round of the competition.

This is a big win for Germany after years of poor performances in international tournaments. It is clear that the German giants are regaining their form after a long period of struggle in the competitions.

With the win, Germany progresses to the knockout stages, while Ivory Coast will rue their missed chance after dominating the game for large portions.
