The APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, has emerged as the winner in the gubernatorial election in Ekiti state.

He has won a convincing victory in an election that took place on Saturday.

In all 16 LGAs in Ekiti, Oyebanji beat his other contestants.

Adenike Oladiji, the returning officer, announced the result of the election in the collation center in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Sunday morning.

Oladiji stated that Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes against 40,543 votes for Wole Oluyede of the PDP and 12,872 votes for Dare Bejide of the ADC.

According to the INEC, the number of people who registered for voting in the election was 988,251. The number of people who were accredited to cast their votes was 384,940.

Valid votes were 375,777.

The number of rejected votes was 6,332. Total number of votes cast was 382,109.

The election was peaceful throughout the state. Vote-buying and voter suppression at some polling units were the stories of the election.

There were also technical problems in the use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The elderly faced more difficulties than anyone else.

Oyebanji, 58, became governor on June 18, 2022.
