DJ Chicken sent to Kirikiri Prison over alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu

DJ Chicken alias Ademola Abiodun appeared on Friday at the Ogba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos in connection with the issuance of death threat to Seyi Tinubu, the son of the President of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Tinubu.

DJ Chicken appeared before the Magistrate M.F. Onamusi who charged him with three-counts of threat to kill, conduct likely to breach of peace, and offences relating to the Cybercrime Act.

It was stated by the prosecution that the case emanated from a video uploaded by the content creator in his social media platform last week in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu on issues concerning the 2027 presidential election.

The prosecutor said that the video contains threats to kill Seyi Tinubu contrary to the provision of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

In response to the public outrage towards the video, DJ Chicken uploaded another video where he apologized for the remarks, saying that they were a joke meant to draw public attention. He claimed that he had no intention to hurt Seyi Tinubu and the remarks were just one of many content creation activities.

However, despite the retraction, the case against him was started as a criminal one.

The first charge is that he uploaded a video on his social media accounts which contained the threat to kill Seyi Tinubu. This crime is defined in Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second charge states that he transmitted an offensive and menacing message through the computer network in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.

The third charge claims that his actions are likely to lead to breaching the peace and to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu. This charge is covered in Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

DJ Chicken entered not guilty plea to all three charges.

Magistrate M.F. Onamusi granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like amount.

The court ordered that the first surety must be a government official, whereas the second surety must be a respected member of the community and must have landed property in Lagos State. The two sureties will also need to present evidence of tax clearance for three years, LASRRA number, NIN, and utility bills. In addition, one surety must be a relative of the accused.

Subject to compliance with the bail terms, the magistrate directed that DJ Chicken be held in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility.

The matter has been set down for hearing on August 3, 2026.
