Woman dies suddenly after stepping off commercial bus in Calabar

Mrs Affiong Peters, a middle-aged woman, has passed away after she is said to have slumped soon after getting off a commercial bus in Calabar, Cross River State.

The event took place around 11:30pm on Saturday at Edgerly, William George Street in the state capital.

The Cross River State Police Command stated that the case was reported to Atakpa Police Station through the driver of the mini-bus Okon John.

ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that Mrs Peters had gotten out of the bus along with seven other passengers when she suddenly sat down and became unconscious.

“Concerned passengers assisted in returning her to the vehicle, and she was promptly taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for emergency medical attention,” Eitokpah said.

Moreover, he emphasized that the doctors have confirmed her death despite the medical attention she received.

The press release by the police spokesperson indicated that the family of the deceased has been traced and has been informed of the situation, and plans to preserve her body are underway.

According to Eitokpah, there is no indication of any foul play as at now, but the case is being handled according to the due process of the police.

The sudden death of the lady has shocked residents in the area.
