President Bola Tinubu has named Professor Segun Aina the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), making it clear that another leadership change will occur in Nigeria’s admissions body for tertiary institutions.

This is because Aina takes over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who has been the Registrar of JAMB but will be leaving his position in July 2026.

The news comes through a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President of Nigeria.

In the statement, it says that Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with specialisation in digital infrastructure, exam system, and organizational reforms.

It further states that he is a renowned professor with vast knowledge in public sector digitalization and systems engineering.

“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement read.

It added that Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

The Presidency said Aina has over 15 years of professional experience advising government institutions on digital transition and examination integrity systems, including NECO and NABTEB.

“He is also a member of professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE and the Institution of Engineering and Technology,” the statement added.

Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would build on the achievements of the outgoing leadership and further strengthen JAMB’s operations.

“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board,” the statement said.
