ADC won’t field any Kano candidate backing Tinubu, says Naja’atu

One of the African Democratic Congress’ gubernatorial aspirants in Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, is out of contention because of his reported allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu according to the ADC’s Deputy National Chairman (North West), Naja’atu Mohammed.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kano, she asserted that “The party will not give ticket to those who have no clear allegiance to its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.”

According to her, the allegiance of Malam Khalil to President Tinubu is common knowledge given his continuous expressions of support for him.

“No fair‑minded Northerner would want to politically associate with any aspirant perceived to be loyal to Tinubu, given the hardship, pain and anguish the region has suffered under this administration,” she said.

“Naja’atu decried the spread of hunger and insecurity in the four past years in the North with women just watching as their husbands were killed.”

She denied being single-handedly the cause of the party’s decision not to accept Khalil, adding that she was only a part of the seven-member consensus committee whose chairman was Ben Obi.

The Deputy National Chairman also inaugurated a new Kano State ADC Caretaker Committee to take charge of the affairs of the party. The committee consists of Umar Bala as Caretaker Chairman, Ismail Musa Ibrahim as Secretary, Lawal Adamu Giginyu as Publicity Secretary, and Barrister Mohammed Lawal Adamu as Legal Adviser.

When contacted, Khalil declined to comment, saying: “I will not reply to her.”

Recall that there were two contestants vying for the seat of the party, Malam Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, in preparation for the 2027 governorship elections.

However, after several failed efforts in settling the issue between them, the party eventually decided to settle on consensus, stating that the two individuals have already reached an agreement to accept whomever the party selects.

It is not yet known who the party selected in the consensus.
